Right, I have about 5 minutes (if that) before I have to leave to go and setup for the Burlesque show this afternoon so here goes!
I started this blog to evaluate my new shiny creativity booster session - I ran one last week at The Art House and plan another in March. To be honest running the session gave me the 'new teacher' buzz I haven't had for a while, it was great!
I think that all other sessions I've taught - drawing, painting etc - really have this one aim in mind, to inspire and reboot creativity in people..... so it was great just to cut to the chase and call it that!
Things which worked were:-
- startup activities, although the colouring in did work this time, it would only take one person to really not want to do it to cause an issue with this one! Need a backup. The name badges worked really well though.
- Lots of little short exercises, so most people did one which resonated with them
- Group time & time talking to partners
- The facebook group & idea of a follow-up
Things which could do with tweaking were:-
- The tennis ball exercise timing - I moved it to after the break because tables needed to be moved to make space, but then people came back with cups of tea and nowhere to put them! Will need to rethink either timing or room setup for this activity - I did love the activity though (thanks Wes!)
- Discussion time was very valuable and we could do with more, the next session will have an extra 30 minutes for this
- As always, I need techniques for drawing out less talkative people. As I'm a super chatty Cathy, I have always struggled with this one! Sometimes maybe I just need to realise that even if somebody isn't talking, they may be getting a lot from the session.
